Likely freeKnob names: confirmed

EQ3-M

Bass, mid and treble knobs on a speaker.

A simple 3-band tone control, plus a knob that chooses which mid range to adjust.

Use it when a voice sounds boomy, boxy, nasal or dull.

Every knob, in plain words

Low

Bass and body of the voice (roughly below 200 Hz).

Turn it upWarmer, fuller, but can get boomy.
Turn it downThinner, cleaner, less mud.

Mid

Loudness of the mid range chosen by Mid Sweep.

Turn it upThat range sticks out more.
Turn it downThat range is softened.

Mid Sweep

Which mid frequency the Mid knob affects.

Turn it upMoves the target higher (toward presence and harshness).
Turn it downMoves the target lower (toward mud and boxiness).

High

Brightness, clarity and air.

Turn it upBrighter, clearer. Too much = harsh S's.
Turn it downDarker, softer, more distant.

Start here for vocals

  1. The sweep trick: turn Mid up a lot (+8).
  2. Slowly move Mid Sweep until the voice sounds its worst (boxy, nasal or harsh).
  3. Leave Mid Sweep there and turn Mid down a little (-2 to -4).

Too much? Listen for…

  • Harsh or tiring on the ears: too much High.
  • Boomy or muddy: too much Low.
  • “Telephone” sound: too much mid around 1 kHz.

Try it in 2 minutes

  1. Loop one line of your mains.
  2. Turn one knob all the way, then back. Hear what changed.
  3. Settle somewhere gentle.
  4. Click the power button to compare before and after, at the same volume.
